  • Develop conceptual site models (CSMs) for contaminated sites
  • Derive risk-based remediation targets and site-specific guidelines
  • Evaluate exposure pathways and receptors for soil, groundwater, and surface water impacts
  • Prepare risk assessment reports and support regulatory submissions

Environmental Modeling:

  • Perform contaminant fate and transport modeling (e.g., groundwater plume modeling, vapor intrusion, surface water impacts)
  • Use and/or develop models (e.g., MODFLOW, MT3D, RT3D, GoldSim, RBCA tools)
  • Conduct sensitivity and uncertainty analyses
  • Calibrate and validate models using field data
  • Support predictive modeling for remediation strategies and long-term monitoring

Soil & Salinity Assessment:

  • Assess soil salinity impacts and support reclamation planning on upstream oil and gas sites
  • Provide technical review and sign-off on SST assessments, and contribute to development of internal best practices and standardized approaches for advanced SST application
  • Interpret soil chemistry data (e.g., EC, SAR, ions) to inform risk and reclamation decisions
  • Support development of salinity management and mitigation strategies

Data Analysis & Interpretation:

  • Analyze environmental datasets (soil, groundwater, air)
  • Apply statistical and geospatial tools (e.g., Excel, R, Python, GIS)
  • Interpret complex datasets to support risk conclusions and modeling inputs

Regulatory & Technical Support:

  • Interface with regulators and clients on risk-based and reclamation approaches
  • Support development of risk management plans, reclamation strategies, and closure plans
  • Stay current with evolving regulatory frameworks and guidance (AEP, AER, BC OGC)

Collaboration & Project Support:

  • Work with site assessment, remediation, and reclamation teams
  • Provide technical input during Phase 2 ESAs, remediation, and reclamation planning
  • Mentor junior staff

What You’ll Need

  • MUST currently reside in Alberta
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Soil Science, Hydrogeology, or related field
  • 15+ years of experience in risk assessment and modeling
